- The 1st estate was made up of all clergy of the church. They did not have to pay taxes towards the government. The 2nd estate was made up of the nobility who also didn't have to pay taxes. The 3rd estate was all the peasants and farmers. They had to pay heavy taxes towards the government, often 50% of their income.
- The Estates-General was made up of members from all three estates. They worked as an assembly and took power from the king.
- We did what we had to do to grow our wealth. We made a good life for ourselves, we shouldn't have to take our money and put it towards the government.
- You guys should be the ones paying all the taxes, look where you live. It feels like all of our money goes to the government.

- The Reign of Terror was a violent period at the end of the French Revolution when a monarchy was replaced by a Republic. Citizens came and stormed the Bastille. They were able to behead King Louis XVI and have a Republic in France. It lasted 10 months and 17,000 people were killed by the guillotine. Robespierre is the lead voice of the new laws or policies. He is also helping out to identify people who are speaking out against the government and to have them killed. Eventually, before Napoleon comes to power he is killed by the guillotine.

- People from all over the country stormed the Bastille after freeing all prisoners and stealing 250 barrels of gun powder. The lower class made a National Assembly, which they created a new constitution. The people of France got a shift in political power and social structure after the storming of the Bastille.
- People fought and brought an end to absolute monarchies in France. The event represented the king's tyranny.
- We don't want you as our king anymore, you have betrayed France!
