"I ask that you honor Amir jan and me...and accept my son into your family" (168).
"We are honored to welcome the son of a man such as yourself into our family" (168).
Amir is accepted into Soraya's family and they have a big celebration with all of Soraya's family. Soon after they get married and Soraya moves in with Baba and Amir.
Slayt: 2
"Listening to them, I realized how much of who I was, what I was, had been defined by Baba and the marks he had left on people's lives" (174).
"...helped me build the house in Taimani..." (174).
Baba
"...like a brother to me..." (174).
Baba died from cancer and this terrified Amir because he had to be on his own now.
Slayt: 3
"I could almost feel the emptiness in Soraya's womb... I'd feel it rising from Soraya... Sleeping between us. Like a newborn child" (189).
"I've always dreamed that I'd hold it in my arms and know my blood had fed it for nine months..."(187).
Amir and Soraya go through many different treatments in the hopes of Soraya getting preganate, but nothing works. They give up all hope and don't want to adopt, and this emptiness builds a barrier between then.
