- Ferdinand Magellan went to Charles, the king of Spain, to ask permission to attempt to find a way to the Indies by heading west.
- And so Magellan and his crew headed west.

- While in the Philippines, Magellan passes away, and the crew decides to sail back home.
- What do we do now?
- We continue on, my friend.
- Magellan and his crew found a strait at the base of South America.*this does not depict the direct journey*
- They raced back to Spain to tell of their journey. And so Magellan's crew was the first to circumnavigate the globe.
- Magellan and his crew reached the "Mare Pacificum" or the "peaceful sea." They decided to continue on.
