Hello im diane nash, I was born and raised in Chicago Illinois May 15, 1938. I attended parochial and different public schools in chicago and was also raised as a catholic.
I left chicago once I got admitted to Howard University in Washington, D.C
I transferred a year later from Howard University and attended Fisk University and majored in english!
I experienced the full effect of the jim crow system in 1959. I than attended a nonviolence workshop and had the opportunity to practice direct actions at an organized sit-ins
In 1960 I attended the founding meeting of SNCC (student nonviolent coordinating committee)
In 1961 SNCC supported multiple kids in Rock Hill who were involved in protest activities and refused to post bail after being arrested..
During the spring in 1961 I played a role to sustain freedom rides initiated by congress of racial equality! I coordinated many students efforts to continue the rides into mississippi and served as a liaison between the press and the US department of justice.
After my leadership role in the freedom rides. I became head of SNCC's campaign. As my campaign was one of the most successful in the era!
Onward I taught in various chicago public schools and continued activism organizing various tenants,, welfare support, and housing advocates.
Becoming a successful american civil rights activist.
