After Lakshmi Bai's son Damodar died, Gangadhar adopted Anand Rao who was then called by Damodar Rao.
We shall call you Damodar Rao.
A British political officer was given a message by the Maharaja instructing that Damodar should be treated with respect and that Jhansi should be given to his widow[Lakshmi Bai] for lifetime.

After the war the people visit the Phool Bagh area of Gwalior where her body is cremated.
