  • Bruchac has written over 120 books! He focuses mainly on Native Americans from the Eastern Woodlands region. He has published poetry, novels and short stories. Bruchac is also a professional storyteller of traditional Native American tales. He has performed all over the world and is featured in many festivals.
  • Joseph Bruchac was born October 16, 1942 in Saratoga Springs, New York and is of Abenaki heritage.Bruchac always loved writing and storytelling growing up. At Cornell, Bruchac earned his Masters in Literature and Creative Writing as well as a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature.

  • Bruchac married in 1964 and has two children. As a musician Bruchac plays many instruments including the Native American hand drum and wooden flute among others. He even plays with his sister, Marge Bruchac, and his sons, Jim and Jesse, as The Dawnland Singers.
  • Some of Bruchac's most famous works include: Rabbit's Snow Dance, Talking Leaves, Two Roads, Code Talker, Jim Thorpe: Original All American, Sacagawea, A Boy Called Slow, Children of the Longhouse, The Warriors, and 13 Moons on Turtle's Back. Bruchac has won numerous fellowships and awards throughout his life including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Native Writers' Circle of the Americas
