When my sister jumped in the pool, she created waves which remind me of what we learned last year in class! As well as the Sun rays on this hot day.
In class, we were taught that mechanical waves has two different types, transverse and longitudinal. Transverse waves have through and crests. Longitudinal waves have compressions and rarefactions.
I remember that EM waves have two fields, an electric field and magntic field. And has crests and troughs because they are always transverse waves.
I remember the order of th EM spectrum, radio, microwave, infared, visible light, ultra violet, x-rays, and gamma rays.
Rado Visible Light Gamma Rays
Electromagnetic waves (red is magnetc field)
Transverse waves
I just remembered that whenever wavelength increases, frequency and energy decrease.
Hey! Look at this paper! It shows that these waves need a medium while EM don't. Both waves carry energy. Transverse waves have matter that vibrates perpindicular to travel while this doesn't.
On the EM spectrum here, it starts with radio which is the largest wave length but has the least amount of energy while gamma rays have the shortest waves but most energy.
I don't care? You're going to high school.
