Underground to Canada By Barbara Smucker

In Underground to Canada, a young girl named Julilly is taken away from her mother and sent to work on a cotton plantation in the South. Young, alone, afraid, and fearing she will never see her family again, she struggles with her fate. Along the way she meets Liza, her best friend and confidant. Together they secretly dream about the freedom land together, and they talk about one day reaching it.

When given the chance to join the Underground Railroad, the girls head out on a desperate journey across America. With slave catchers and dogs out for them; they travel fearing the wrath of ol' Sims and being caught and whipped for their so-called evil ways. Together, the girls fight for freedom.

Using Storyboard That, you can follow Julilly from her plantation in Virginia, as she makes her way up the Underground Railroad en-route to Canada, with the help of Alexander Milton Ross.
