  • Party at Gatsby's
  • "I had been actually invited. A chauffeur in a uniform of robin’s-egg blue crossed my lawn early that Saturday morning with a surprisingly formal note from his employer: the honor would be entirely Gatsby’s, it said, if I would attend his “little party.” that night." (13)
  • "believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby’s house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited. People were not invited—they went there"(13)
  • Nick & Jordan searching for Gatsby
  • THIS DRUNK MAN (OWL-EYES)
  • “The bar, where we glanced first……examined Jordan from head to foot” (14).
  • "We need to look for the owner/host to this party!!"
  • Meeting Gatsby...outside of party
  • HI!! I'm the host Jay Gatsby.
  • “I was still with Jordan Baker…. Something significant, elemental, and profound”(15).
  • In chapter 3 of great gatsby, an important scene was the party. The chapter talks a lot about this party that was held at Gatsby's house. The theme here is a lot related to class and the roaring twenties. These two themes relate to this scene in the chapter because the class has to do with old money and new money, but Gatsby has a lot of new money. Many people weren't invited to this party but came just because of the new money aspect which was said in one of the quotes above. Then the chapter relates to the Roaring twenties because there is a huge party going on.
  • Jordan Returns to tell Nick about her talk with Gatsby
  • “Gatsby’s butler was suddenly standing beside us…..and followed the butler toward the house.” (16)
  • Jordan comes back from talking with Jay Gatsby and says, “I’ve just heard the most amazing thing,”
  • This scene refers to the theme of the Roaring Twenties and a little of the American Dream because the shallowness of the Roaring Twenties, Owl Eyes' vast library of "realism", is full of books no one reads. The book includes "realism," but it is merely for display. Character Analysis- Owl-Eyes is a short, slightly inebriated man with owl-like glasses (whom Nick refers to as Owl-Eyes). He is a drunk middle-aged man.
  • Nick see's everyone surrounding Owl-Eyes(drunk man) After he drove into ditch
  • “A man in a long duster had dismounted from the wreck..... It happened, and that’s all I know.” (17)
  • Owl-Eyes (drunk man) gave up and decided to just walk away and left the car in the ditch.
  • This scene represents the themes, of the Roaring Twenties and Past & Future. Gatsby's enticing smile is a mask, just as the "fun" of the Roaring Twenties conceals an emptiness beneath. Nick and Gatsby are linked by a common past: the war. Character Analysis: Jay Gatsby is very wealthy and on the new side of money. He is the host of the party, has a dazzling smile, and refers to everyone as an "old sport".
  • The theme relates to the past and future. Until now, Gatsby has been nothing more than a smile and a slew of rumors. Suddenly, he has a story and a past, but Nick has no idea what it is.
  • "I've just heard the most amazing thing"
  • This part of the passage relates to the roaring twenties theme. In two ways, the crash is symbolic. It embodies the reckless abandon of the Roaring Twenties and the impending crash that Fitzgerald predicted would bring the boom to an end.
