In The Crucible "Act II", Abigail Williams gets revenge on Elizabeth Proctor for firing her. Mary Warren went to court again even though she was not supposed to and came back with a poppet she made for Elizabeth. John Proctor again forbids her from ever going to Salem, but today she had news that Elizabeth's been accused but Mary got her out of trouble since shes close to Elizabeth. John Hale came to the Proctor house to question them to see it there close to god and are religious. Hale asked Proctor to recite the ten commandments. He was able to recite all of the except for one, Adultery. Hale didn't know this but that's the one Proctor broke since he had an affair with Abby. The Proctors knew it was Abby that accused Elizabeth because she wants John back so she tried to get rid of Elizabeth. Cheever and Herrick also show up at the Proctor house to take Elizabeth. First they look for a poppet, one like Mary came home with earlier. They found a needle in the stomach of the doll. At the Parris house Abby fell and they found a needle in her stomach, right where it was in the doll. This is all the proof they needed that Elizabeth was trying to kill Abby and took her away. John quickly calls Mary into the room to explain how the poppet got into the house. Mary stated that she made it at court and you can even ask Susanna Walcott or Abigail Williams who sat right beside her.
"You're coming to the court with me, Mary. You will tell it in the court." (Miller 75)
"I made a gift for you today, Goody Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing"(Miller 53)
"Then go and tell her she's a w_____. Whatever promise she may sense--break it, John, break it." (Miller 59)
