- Zebulon Pike explored Kansas and described it as a useless desert
- That Zebulon guy was right this place isn't useful at all
- Stephen H. Long
- Stephen H. Long traveled through Kansas by steamboat and agreed with Zebulon by nicknaming it "The Great American Desert"
- The land the the indians currently occupy is good land and those savagesaren't putting it to use. We are going to move the Indians into the new land that has been deemed useless so we can expand our country

- after the speech the Indians were kicked out of their own land and forced to move westward.
