- "President James K. Polk decided to have General Zachary Taylor move his 3000 troops from the Nueces River to the Rio Grande. Just north of the Rio Grande, an advance scout of U.S. cavalry troops were defeated by a larger Mexican force."
- We should declare war against the Mexican's to dispute our disagreements.
- "...Polk learned Mexican troops fired on U.S. soldiers, he convinced Congress to declare war on Mexico..."
- "A daring escape by Kearney’s chief scout, Kit Carson, brought help from the military post in San Diego. This ended Mexican rule in California."
- By September 1847, American troops had captured Mexico City.

- The people of Mexico were tired of the fighting and they forced Santa Anna to resign as President. Shortly afterward, the new Mexican government was willing to accept the American demands. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the war which had lasted from 1846 to 1848.
