- Because of the now-legal opium trade, the British were making more money than ever in China and had a large sphere of influence there. But they still wanted more.
- We want more ports for trade AND a diplomatic presence in China
- No! You have already taken too much and this is much too far!
- do you not remember what happened last time? You cant beat us!

- So the second Opium war began. the British again brought their European allies as well as American ones in to fight so they won the war, further humiliating the Chinese.
- Now that we have won again, you must open more ports and allow diplomatic presence in Bejing
- What will I do!? What will the people think?

- The Opium Wars had many lasting consequences and implications. It made the ruling Qing dynasty unpopular and weak. This gave rise to costly uprisings and rebellions such as the Taiping Rebellion and the Boxer Rebellion. it also severely weakened the Chinese economy and caused a lasting opioid crisis throughout the nation because of the thousands of addicts. Many of these things could have been mostly or completely avoided had the British not forced the opium trade on China, especially their addiction crisis.
