- "It is impossible to say how the idea first entered my head. There was no reason for what I did. I did not hate the old man: I even loved him. He never hurt me. I did not want his money. I think it was his eye. His eye was like the eye of a vulture."

- His eye and loudly beating heart angered me and prompted me to end his life by suffocating him with a mattress.
- Every night at 12 o'clock, I slowly enter the old man's rooms for an hour. I shine a sliver of light across his eye. However it was the eye I wanted to kill not him.

- One of the neighbor's heard the old man's cry. We've come to check it out.
- "Who's there???"
- On the 8 night the old man suddenly moved, and I stood there for an hour. I lifted up the cloth and the "vulture eye"greeted me back.

- That cry was my own from a nightmare. The old man had gone to visit a friend out of the country.
