- Laios and Jocasta have a child who is told by a prophet that he will grow up to kill his father and marry his mother. In order to prevent this, the newborn is given to a shepherd to leave it to die on a mountain. The shepherd doesn't do this, however, and instead gives the baby to a different royal family. They name this baby Oedipus, and he doesn't know that his new family adopted him. Once he's older, he is told of his fate and decides to leave his family.
- While leaving his family, a man gets into a crash with him and Oedipus kills the man in order to protect his honor. He gets to Thebes and gets rid of the Sphynx terrorizing their town and is rewarded by becoming king alongside Jocasta. He has 2 girls and 2 boys with her named Antigone, Ismene, Eteocles, and Polyneices. When he is older, he finds out the man he killed was his father and the women he married was his own mom. He stabs out his eyes and Jocasta kills herself.
- After Oedipus was exiled, his two sons agreed to take turns as the king, but when Eteocles refuses to give up the throne to his brother, he makes an army and fights his brother. During this fight, they both kill each other, leaving Creon, Oedipus' brother-in-law, in charge. He comes to the conclusion that Eteocles shall be given a funeral, while Polyneices stays there to rot, and if anyone tries to bury him they will be publicly stoned and killed.
- Antigone declares that this is not what the gods wanted, and that everyone has a right to a funeral or else they will be punished by the gods. She asks her sister to help her, but she declines, stating that it is illegal. Antigone goes about the mission alone and sprinkles Polyneices' body with dirt.
- Creon is giving a public speech about his political views when one of the Sentries tells him that someone covered Polyneices' body with dirt. His tone drops and is infuriated with the Sentry because of this, and believes that they are in on it and were paid to keep quiet. The Chorus states that it could've been the gods, but Creon dejects this idea and says that the gods would never honor someone like Polyneices, and that they are anarchists if they believe that.
- Antigone is caught in the act of fully burying the body. When given to Creon, he is in disbelief, but switches to anger after hearing Antigone's defense. Ismene is also brought into the conflict, as she did not tell Creon when she knew what Antigone's plans were. Antigone is sentenced to death and accepts her punishment without batting an eye.
