- After America and Great Britain made the Jay treaty, France felt the new treaty went against the US-French treaty so they start capturing over 300 American ships.

- In return, President Adams sent three diplomats to make peace with France. They met up with three unnamed spies known as XYZ from France, with a demand to pay a bribe of $250k and a loan of $10 million in order to speak with Talleyrand. The American diplomats were outraged.

- President Adams, I ask for peace. I don't really want to fight anymore. Kinda busy fighting Britain.
- After the failure of a peace talk, president Adams decided to build up his army and navy to capture over 80 French ships. After a back and forth battle, president Adams makes peace with France and signs a peace treaty.
