- Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7th, 1941 that set off a chain of events for the US involvement in WW2. Also, it heightened the racial tensions with Japanese Americans in the US.
- Japanese Americans living on Hawaii islands, being accused of helping plan the surprise attack. Many stayed in Hawaii and some went to internment camps.
- Women were able to work in the workforce but they were mainly feminine. They eventually got new opportunities such as the WAC or WAAC.
- African Americans fought for democracy against Nazi Germany which embraced an extreme form of racism. There was also a Double V campaign that forced white Americans to rethink their attitude towards black Americans.
- Jewish Americans made the same sacrifices as other Americans but suffered knowing that millions of Jews were being imprisoned and murdered in Europe. They were helpless against the slaughter.
- Mexican Americans faced discrimination in their everyday lives. Some of them were questioning why they should fight for America when all they do is get treated poorly. In the end, at least 500,000 Mexican Americans joined the war effort.
