- I'm no robber. I fell off a yacht. My name is Sanger Rainsford of New York City. This is what Rainsford said when he got to Zaroffs house. Zaroff said, It is a very great pleasure and honor to welcome Mr. Sanger Rainsford, the celebrated hunter, to my home. This a important part of the story because it is showing us when they meet each other.

- Rainsford got into Zaroffs house and killed him
- How did you get in here
- He sought to throw open the door, it would not open. He went to the window and looked out. His room was high up in one of the towers. This is important because this is where Rainsford was trying to escape from Zaroffs house.
- The general could follow a trail through the woods at night, he could follow an extremely difficult trail, he must have uncanny powers. pg 76.This shows when Zaroff was in the woods hunting Rainsford.
- Rainsford! How in God's name did you get here? Swam I found it quicker than walking through the jungle, said Rainsford. I am still a beast at bay, said Rainsford. This is important because it shows how the story ends.
