- This crisis began when the people from South Carolina were angry becuase of a high tariff that hurt their economy and their ability to trade with others. They declared that they could nullify these federal laws within their state.
- The Nullification Crisis was a political conflict in the 1830s between the state of South Carolina and the federal government.
- I'm just the messenger sir, but you have to follow it. The president will be very upset at this news.
- We are going to nullify! Down with this tariff!

- This is unacceptable! I'm sending troops down there immediately! This situation is getting out of hand
- The Force Bill
- President Andrew Jackson was furious at the states behavior and claimed that, "If one state could ignore the federal laws, then it would lead to the breakup of the country". He sent troops to South Carolina with the "Force bill" that allowed him to use military force if necessary.

- The crisis was averted peacefully with a Compromise tariff made by Henry Clay. It successfully brought down the cost of tariffs and South Carolina backed downfrom its threat of Nullification. This event showed the tension between the Federal government and the States right's.
