- It was our move-in day in Corvallis and I'll never forget how exciting it was to walk into my first apartment for the first time.

- My sister and I ate takeout together during our first night in our new apartment. I was filled with optimism and hope for the future more than I ever had before. Life would finally be good.

- Life at home was hard. I'd never had a good relationship with my parents, and I wanted the freedom to live my own life in a new city. I could never be content if I stayed in my hometown, a small coastal town in California near the Oregon border.
