- Greetings, Alaiyo! I brought you this Nigerian robe!
- Mama opens the check
- "What’s the matter withGrandmama—don’t she want to be rich?"
- Walter says"I want so many things that they are driving me kind of crazy…Mama – look at me." (Act I, scene ii) Walter wants to start a liquor store with the insurance check from his father's death.
- Ruth talks to Walter about her Pregnancy
- "Oh—'Alaiyo.' I hope you don’t mind. It is what youwould call a nickname, I think. It is a Yoruba word. I am aYoruba." Asagai comes to the house and greets Beneatha by the nickname "Alayio". He gifts her a Nigerien robe .
- Mama opened the check with a foul expression. Travis, being a young boy, wondered what was wrong and why Grandmama wasn't joyful after receiving that much money.
- After Ruth wakes up from her unconsciousness she talk to Walter about her pregnancy. Ruth says this to Walter and she is telling Walter she will have an abortion even though he does not think she would do that.
