  • My First Track Meet
  • Palestine and Isreal Conflict
  • Young Brains Cause Doomed Love?
  • An event I was a part of that shaped my identity was my first high school track meet.  I did not want to disappoint my team, but I was not confident in my own athletic ability and while waiting for my race to start I had already anticipated defeat. Then the gun shot, and I was in disbelief that I was holding first place, by an avalanche! This race taught me that I have been doubting my capability and I realized it's easier for me to accomplish my goals if I am confident in myself.
  • My Father
  • I have been fortunate enough to have become more humble recently. Due to the current Palestine and Isreal conflicts, I have developed a sense of gratefulness because it is my people who are being affected and I understand that I am lucky to not be in that situation. Through my gratitude, I've understood that there must be a reason I was lucky enough to not be in that situation, and I shouldn't waste that blessing..
  • Covid-19 Lockdown
  • A text we read in this unit that has made an impact on me was the “What’s the Rush: Young Brains Caused Doomed Love” article, by Lexi Tucker. As I read Tucker's claim that younger people tend to rush to risky decisions because their brains are not yet fully developed, I reflected on my own relationship and if It was moving too fast because we are still young. This article gave me a sense of youth and made me take more time to make hard choices. I like to think I am now more mature because of it.

  • People say I am a copy of my father, and as I get older, I start to agree with how true that statement is. My father has always been the one person I want to please, and I think by being such a "daddy's girl" my whole life my personality has been molded by the influence he has had over me. We share our love for many things, such as animals, a good juicy steak, and the value of being a good person before all else. The person I try to make myself is one that he would like.
  • One positive that came out of the challenge of being in lockdown was that I had more time to learn more about myself. With only myself as someone to socialize with for so long, I became aware of who I really was and the things I really enjoyed doing. With such a hectic schedule pre-covid, I never had time to sit down and think about myself. I discovered my identity in lockdown. For instance, although I have created myself as a "studyholic", the thing I cherish most is my relationship with people, not my grades.
