- I mean, i know it began in 1896,that it started since Ferdinand Magellan led an expedition to the island in the early 1560s to the establishment of a full Spanish colony.

- Yeah, but don't forget Andres Bonifacio,the founder of the Katipunan. From his exile in Hong Kong, eventually he returned to the Philippines and resumed the attacks against the Spanish authorities. And on June 12, 1898, Aguinaldo declared the country's independence and the birth of the Philippine Republic.
- You're correct. Filipino nationalists revolted against the Spanish rule that had controlled the Philippines since the sixteenth century.
