- Three witches appear and they make plans to tell Macbeth about a prophecy that has come to them meanwhile Macbeth and Banquo are fighting a battle with the "traitorous thane of Cawdor". wins and macbeth becomes the new thane of Cawdor.

- Lady Macbeth finds out about the witches' prophecies and feels as if her husband won't do the right things in order to be king so by her own free will she decides to plan the kings death.
- Macbeth has returned to the scene after murdering Duncan and lady Macbeth plants the weapons in Duncans chamber to frame Duncans chamberlains for the murder.
