- My name is Rutherford B. Hayes and I won the election.
- Hayes grew up in Delaware, Ohio. He was a commander and a governor at one point. His political views were safe liberalism, party loyalty, and he had a good war record. According to the textbook, he had moderate views on reconstruction.

- Samuel Tilden was a governor of New York State and he was born in New Lebanon NY. His political views were the same of almost every Democrat. To segregate against blacks. He and Hayes both thought that he would win, but that wasn't the case.

- Rutherford B. Hayes won the election. Hayes got one more electoral vote than Tilden, causing him to win the election. Tilden almost won, but many states claimed otherwise.
- It was made to settle the election dispute. The renewed government would provide more aid to the South and withdraw all troops that remain. In return, the South has to obey African-American rights.
