  • Person vs. Self
  • "Besides--she broke into a cold sweat--this man was likely to be worth one hundred dollars."(39)"'When I first saw you'--they were eating, and somehow she needed to let him know--'I thouht...' But she was too ashamed to finish the sentance. 'It's a lot of money' he said gently. 'I'd be tempted if I were you.'"(42)
  • Person vs. Society
  • "Amelia Sargeant? Mary Emerson? Huldah Stone? No? Well, you'll hear those names soon enough. Our crime has been to speak out for better working conditions."(69)
  • This is Person vs. Nature because there is a bear that is coming into Lyddie's house and it's rumbling around and knocking things over. The bear is scaring Lyddie's mom and sister.
  • This is Person vs. Self because Lyddie is having and internal conflict about turning Ezekial in for $100. She thinks she will turn him in, but then she changes her mind once she gets to know him.
  • This is Person vs. Society because Diana and her friends are speaking out for better working conditions. There are only a few of them, and they are speaking out against the government, or the people who are in charge.
