  • American Sailors Forced into British Service
  • You are coming with us!
  • U.S. Expansion
  • They are trying to take our land!
  • We Shall expand this way
  • Trade Issues
  • How are we supposed to trade if there is a war blocking the trading ports
  • The USS Chesapeake set sail off the Virginia coast. British ships chased them and forced them to stop. They made them go on to their ship and then destroyed the ship. 18 men were injured, 3 were killed, and 4 men were taken and forced to work for them.
  • A Lost Way of Life
  • How can they take our home after the hundreds of years we have been here
  • The U.S. territory was spreading from the Atlantic Ocean west to the Mississippi River, but the U.S. wanted more. The U.S. had its eyes on a British Controlled part of Canada which worried the British. Because of their expansion, the U.S. was building on the Indian's hunting land and they didn’t want people to be taking over their land. The Indian leaders had to choose between being loyal to the United States or siding with the British and the Indians believed the British would be more likely to let them keep their land, so they sided with them.
  • Continued Confidence
  • After we defended ourselves from the British, America has been rapidly growing. It is starting to look like we will be around for a while.
  • The U.S. was still a new country and it was using trade to make a ton of money. These goods were transported by ship. But the U.S. shipping trade was caught in the middle of sea battles between Great Britain and France. This war blocked the other trading ports and created major hardships for the United States. Great Britain also caused trouble by stealing goods from American ships.
  • Economic Growth
  • I never realised how much better it is having these products right here with us and not needing to trade for them
  • Although neither America nor Britain gained a lot from the war, the Indians definitely lost a lot. The Indians signed the Treaty of Ghent which went over the Indian rights and land would return to the way they were in 1811. But since Indian lands had no clear-cut boundaries, white Americans ignored this part of the treaty. Americans eventually stopped expanding into Indian territory in Canada, but they didn't stop taking over Indian territory in the United States. These people have been living here for hundreds of years and along with losing their land, they were forced to give up their traditions and their way of life.
  • The U.S. successfully defended itself against the British and it gained the respect of other European countries. The U.S. gained confidence and brought the "Era of Good Feelings." Their confidence inspired a spirit of growth in the United States that continued throughout the 1800s.
  • The American economy continued to grow after the war and the blockage of trade made them build factories to make their own goods. The U.S. became more self-reliant. Before the war, the U.S. bought cotton cloth from the British, but now, the U.S. can make their own cotton. Their transportation systems also expanded which allowed them to send their products to other countries and other parts of America.
