- Soon after Parris finds the girls dancing in the forest he confronts Abigail about the situation. Through this conversation we learn that Paris is very concerned about his reputation. He is paranoid that his enemies will find out about what happened.

- When John Proctor and Abigail are left alone upstairs with the unconscious Betty, Abigail begins to discuss their former relationship. In this scene the reader learns that John and Abigail have an affair. This relationship adds more tension to the story. It also tells the reader more about Abigail's ulterior motives.

- In this scene Reverend hale questions Tituba about what truly happened in the forest. Through this scene we learn more about Hales unusual tactics for witch hunting or interrogation. The reader also learns more about Abigail and Tituba's understanding of the situation. After eventually confessing to witchcraft they immediately recognize the power that they have been given.
