"Pass your hand, over the wall; you cannot help feeling the nitre. Indeed it is very damp. Once more let me implore you to return. No? Then I must positively leave you. But I must first render you all the little attentions in my power."
As we continued walking with a torch in both of our possessions, I decided to lift my torch to see if the Amontillado was closer by; but it was hard to tell, for these vaults--like I have said before--are getting way too extensive. Where is the Amontillado? While I was still walking, Montresor told me to proceed because the Amontillado was near. He then tried to talk about Luchesi--a stupid ignoramus that he is still thinking about--but I didn't let it slide. I told Montresor about how he's such an ignoramus, because Luchesi obviously is. I stepped forward out of anger, but I felt like I was going to fall with each step. I continued to walk forward to arrive at the location of the Amontillado, but all I saw in front of me was...a dead end with a whole in the wall? No, this can't be right. The Amontillado must be behind this wall, or maybe, we took a wrong turn? I then felt the tug of hard, metal links around my waist for a couple of seconds. Montresor, what was he doing? He told me to...pass my hand over the wall? And but the nitre, oh the nitre, it made the air humid, and my surroundings damp. I tried to tell him about the Amontillado, and about how this is wasting our time. We do have some Amontillado to find, right? I mean, where is that Amontillado? It's not here! He replied with, "True." But, he didn't do anything about the Amontillado; he just started to move to the side...and...stack rectangles?

"He! he! he!—he! he! he!—yes, the Amontillado. But is it not getting late? Will not they be awaiting us at the palazzo, the Lady Fortunato and the rest? Let us be gone."
"Yes, let us be gone."
Why? Why had he moved to the side? Why was he...stacking...bricks! Oh my, bricks are all around my legs! He chained me, and he's...going to...leave me? Wait, he's really going to build a brick wall around me, right now? Montresor, why is he building a wall--oh, no. He's kidding right? It doesn't look like it! I need to do something--AAAAAAAAH! I screamed and screamed; Montresor, why must you do this! He then decided to...echo my screams of terror? Why Montresor, my faithful friend must you make me suffer like this? THIS HAS TO BE A JOKE! No, Montresor! Please! He has to be making a joke--an excellent one at that. I almost fell for it--he he! I laughed, calling all of this tomfoolery what it clearly seems to be--a jest, an excellent one! He yelled, "The Amontillado!" And yes, we should've got the Amontillado in here instead of playing around; but it was getting late, and my lady--and the rest--are waiting for me and Montresor at the palazzo of the Carnival . I suggested this to Montresor, and he surely has to understand that even though his jest is hilarious--well, it kind of is--we have to head back really soon; and maybe we can grab the Amontillado for a taste tomorrow or next week. But all he replied back was, "Yes, let us be gone." Not a, "Alright, my jest was hilarious, but I shall hault for now." Why didn't he stop this if it's not serious and it's just a joke--it's not just a joke, is it? Am I actually--he...he's burying me alive, it's not a joke!

"For the love of God, Montresor!"
"Yes, for the love of God!"
"For the love of God, Montresor!" I screamed as I realized my awful, painful, just awful fate! He's going to murder me--no--he is right now! I thought that we were friends! I...he's...no! I can't...I'm gonna...the nitre...the cough...it's awfully damp in here. My lungs...my throat...no! I have nothing to soothe myself...I'm suffering so much. Was he jealous of my wine knowledge? My body just feels so helpless...these chains are so secure...I feel stuck, like I can't escape this. Montresor, I hope you know that this is the cruelest thing that I have ever experienced--and I have tasted bad wine before. But this, this is worse than any bad wine--ever. I can't breathe...my lungs...my throat...my body...I can't see anything... Is that a torch? I might as well close my eyes, it's so bright...
