- Okay boys, when adding fractions you are basically joining two or more parts of a whole to get a bigger number. To add unlike fractions, you must find the common denominator in both fractions. Then you must add the numerators together and put the final number calculated over the common denominator that was found, then you will be given your answer. You can either reduce the fraction or leave it as is.
