- Jefferson thought that since the French bought from them if they stopped exporting to them it would be like "take that France" but instead they paid no mind and bought elsewhere and because of how powerful they were they didn't really depend on the U.S.

- Because the U.S. depended on the French for buying their goods, once they stopped it lead to a devastated U.S economy losing millions of dollars and upset many Americans.
