- In this scene Lina and Doon get assigned their jobs. Lina gets Pipeworks Laborer and Doon gets Messenger. The next day, they switch jobs. I chose to include this scene because Doon needs to go into the secret room in the Pipeworks.

- In this scene Lina comes home from work and finds Poppy eating an important piece of paper from a metal, knocked up box. Lina takes the pieces of paper and glues them back together. She thinks the instructions are for a door in the Pipeworks, right by the river. I consider this to be an important event because I think the instructions will lead to the door at the river where the new generator is stored.

- In this part of the novel Doon and Lina find a locked door in the Pipeworks near the river. This scene is important to the story because behind this door I think they will find a new generator and everything else that they need.
- I think that at the end of the novel Lina and Doon find the key to the door and open it and then they go in and find a new generator so that Ember can keep the lights on.
