One of the main themes in The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling mankind is its own worst enemy, on pages 75-77 the people on Maple Street start to interrogate Goodman because his car started up by itself. This shows that one little thing will make you look bad. To add on after his car starts up women one said Sometimes I go to bed late at night and a couple of times I'd come out on the porch and see Mr.Goodman staring up at the sky as if he was waiting for something , I found this on page 77. This shows that doing something you like may appear weird to others. Lastly, on page 82 Tommy yells Its the monster its a monster . After Tommy said that Charlie grabbed his gun walked towards the monster and ended up shooting the monster . They had all found out it was Pete vanhorn, and all of them yelled at Charlie. This shows that not all your friends are trustworthy. In conclusion the story porves that man kind is its own worst enemy
