- Molly was granted the ability to do community service, her boyfriend Jack told her that he knows a old woman named Vivian, who needs help cleaning her home. Jack brings Molly to Vivian's home and tells her to be respectful to her and not cause problems for her.
- 'My name is Vivian nice to meet you'
- “So is it just human nature to believe that things happen for a reason - to find some shred of meaning even in the worst experiences?”- Molly (pg 213)
- As soon as Molly started to clean the attic she found boxes that looked like they were very old. Vivian climbed up the ladder and saw Molly moving the boxes and told her inside of them there were old clothes from the 1900s. Vivian told her that the clothes have a story behind them and then asked molly if she wants to listen.
- “My entire life has felt like chance. Random moments of loss and connection. This is the first one that feels, instead, like fate.” (pg 191)
- Vivian told Molly how she immigrated to the US by using a boat and told her when she got to the US she was forced into the foster care system because her family was not doing great. She went to foster care and went to multiple families till she found a family called the Nielsen's. They adopted her and named her after there dead child Vivian.
- 'Nice to meet you Niamh i'm Mr. Nielsen'
- 'Hello Niamh i'm Mrs. Nielson'
- Hi, my name is lily and my father is T-Ray. My father isn't a nice guy he doesn't know how to raise a child. I have been told my whole life I have the same memory play in my head that I killed my own mother, also Rosaleen is my stand-in mother as of now.
- “maybe he was telling himself what a rotten excuse for a father he was for not treating me better, but i doubt it.” (pg98)!
- Lily and Rosaleen go into town, Rosaleen gets jumped by white men and end up in the hospital, Lily decides to run away, they don't have money or anywhere to go. Lily remembers a address on a picture of her mom, That is where they go.

- Lily gets to the boatwright's house and is welcomed greatly. Time goes on and on and they love each other, lily has never felt more loved and taken care of her whole life. she now has four moms who mean the world to her, she doesn't have to worry about T-Ray anymore, she knows deep down those bees lead her there.
- 'Hello Mr and Mrs Nielsen, it's nice to meet you'
