- Martin Luther King Jr was so smart he skipped two grades in school. He earned his doctorates degree in theology (the study of religion) at Boston University.

- In 1953 he married Coretta Scott. They had four kids- Yolanda, Martin, Dexter, and Bernice.
- The Civil Rights Act
- From December 1955 to December 1956 Martin Luther King Jr helped lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This began after Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a bus. This was the first of many peaceful protests led by Martin Luther King Jr.
- In 1963 Martin Luther King Jr gave his famous "I Have a Dream Speech" during his famous march on Washington. Over 250,000 people were there!
- in 1964 the Civil Rights Act was passed and segregation ended. Kids of all races were free to play together in public spaces!

- Sadly, Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated on April 4th, 1968. The world mourned his loss. On his tombstone the words "Free at last! Free at last!" are carved.

- Martin Luther King Jr's purpose was to make the world a more peaceful place. Now he is honored worldwide for his important work. Every year we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr day and remember the great man that he was!
