- We first meet Jefferey as a sad boy who has lost his parents and now lives with his aunt & uncle that don't speak to each other but still live together. One day Jefferey starts running and doesn't stop until he makes it to the West End side of town.
- Falling Action
- Jefferey meets Amanda and becomes the legendary Maniac Magee. He lives with her family until he feels he has to leave when he feels like he didn't belong there because of his race.
- Resolution
- After leaving the Bealle family, Maniac meets Mr Grayson, who takes him in. After bonding with him and feeling safe, Mr Grayson dies and leaves Maniac on his own again.
- Maniacs meets the Mcnabs at a baseball game and is invited to move in with them.
- Maniac discovers his home is with the Beale family.
