- On June 17, 1972, five men were arrested for breaking and entering into the DNC headquarters with wiretapping equipment. Nixon denied any responsibility to the incident after the White House dismissed the case as third-rate burglary

- However despite his denial, the FBI still had their suspicions about the incidents after the suspect's Libby and Hunt pointed out that it was Nixon's idea so in order to save his election and stay out of trouble he paid hush money to obstruct the FBI. Then on 1973, the suspects were found guilty and one of them exposed Nixon's White House connections, it was revealed that Nixon installed a secret taping system in the Oval Office.

- His actions were brought to the Supreme Court where they asked him to hand over the tapes but he refused claiming he had executive order but the Supreme Court wasn't buying it and in the end, Nixon became the first president to resign from office.
