- an assistant teacher, tried teaching laurent to pronounce words, but beacuse laurent had difficulty with this, it made the teacher angry, and gave him a violent blow under his chin, and thats when laurent swore to never speak again, and he furthered believed that sign language was a languge

- On April 15, 1817, rented rooms made up their school which opened with seven students and Alice Cogswell being the first to enroll.

- Laurent mostly taught grade-school students, but he also taught/trained future teachers and administrators, because of this many of his students became productive deaf citizens, and his school made a huge impact on making more deaf schools.

- July 18, 1869, Clerc passed away, when He was 83 years old. Through out his life he made a huge impact for deaf people and sign language.
