- A triumphant scene in the book, Polly finally comes to realize that trying to befriend the wealthy, snobby and mean-spirited Agatha is not in her best interest. She sees clearly for the first time that Agatha is not a genuine person and that she wouldn't even like to spend time with her to begin with. Polly would much rather play baseball or go fishing with her true friends. She realizes that by using more self-control, she can cultivate friendships that are truly worthwhile.
