  • Lewis and Clark expedition
  • The Corps of Discovery departs from Camp Dubois near St. Louis, traveling up the Missouri River with nearly 50 men, including French-Canadian and Indian descendants. Clark brings York, a man he had enslaved. The group includes soldiers, carpenters, and hunters, traveling in a 55-foot keelboat and two smaller pirogues. They sail, row, use poles, and sometimes wade to pull the boats with ropes.

  • During the Lewis and Clark Expedition in June 1805, William Clark had a dangerous encounter with a bear near the Great Falls of the Missouri River in Montana. While hunting, the bear charged at Clark, injuring him in the leg before he managed to shoot and kill it. Although the wound wasn't too serious

  • In August 1805, the expedition was struggling to cross the Rocky Mountains and needed horses to continue their journey. After searching for several weeks, they encountered Sacagawea's brother, Cameahwait, who was the leader of the Shoshone. Sacagawea, who was a translator and guide for the expedition, helped bridge the gap. Cameahwait agreed to trade horses with them, allowing the expedition to continue their journey westward.
