- Brian Robeson, a thirteen-year-old boy, is flying in a small plane over the Canadian wilderness. It's only him and the pilot. Brian feels sad and keeps thinking about The Secret—something he knows about his mother that led to the divorce between his parents. He felt his eyes beginning to burn and he knew there would be tears. But he didn't cry.

- Flying is easy. Just takes learning. Like everything else.

- Brian has never been in any kind of plane. It was loud and confusing. The plane's pilot notices Brian and shows him how to hold the controls and use the foot pedals. At first, Brian didn't want to try, but he realized it wasn't so hard. The pilot even let go of the wheels to show Brian he's actually flying the plane alone. Suddenly, there was a bad smell in the plane, body gas from the pilot.

His father is an engineer who works in Canada. The plane carried some equipment, and a survival pack for emergency situations.

And then he knew...the pilot was having a heart attack.
