  • The Capulets and the Montagues are enemies. Romeo and Juliet opens with a fight between them breaking out.
  • No, sir. I do not bite my thumb at you, sir. But Ibite my thumb, sir.
  • What, drawn and talk of peace! I hate the word,As I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee.Have at thee, coward!
  • Do you bite your thumb at us, sir?
  • Mariángel Aleán Fragoso
  •
  • If ever you disturb our streets again,Your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace. For this time, all the rest depart away. You, Capulet, shall go along with me;And Montague, come you this afternoon,To know our farther pleasure in this case,To old Free-town, our common judgment-place.Once more, on pain of death, all men depart.
  • The prince of Verona stops the fight for the sake of everyone and says that if it happens again they will be executed.
  • Tell me, in sadness, who is that you love.
  • What sadness lengthens Romeo's hours?
  • Not having that, which having, makes them short.

He tells Paris about his traditional feast where he could have the chance to talk to her.Lastly he orders his servant to invite the people on the list to the masquerade party, but he doesn't know he can't read.
  • My will to her consent is but a part,And she agreed, within her scope of choiceLies my consent and fair according voice. This night I hold an old-accustomed feast, Whereto I have invited many a guestSuch as I love; and you among the storeOne more most welcome makes my number more.
  • But now, my lord, what say you to my suit
  • I must to the learned — in good time.
  • Go, sirrah, trudge aboutThrough fair Verona; find those persons outWhose names are written there, and to them say,
  • Tut, you saw her fair, none else being by,Herself poised with herself in either eye.But in that crystal scales let there be weighedYour lady's love against some other maid That I will show you shining at this feast,And she shall scant show well, that now seems best.
  • Mariángel Aleán Fragoso
  • Romeo reads the list of people. Benvolio and him see that Rosaline is invited, so Benvolio convinces Romeo to go to find someone he will love more compared to her (Without caring about the fact that it's a Capulet party).
  • I'll go along no such sight to be shown,But to rejoice in splendor of mine own.
  • Lady Capulet and the nurse try to convince Juliet to marry Paris.
  • It is an honor that I dream not of.
  • I was your mother much upon these yearsThat you are now a maid. Thus then in brief,The valiant Paris seeks you for his love.
