- In 1781, Andrew Jackson was captured by the Royal Army. An officer demanded Jackson shine his boots--Jackson was adamant in his refusal, and was smacked across the face with a sabre. Later on, due to the invasion of the Carolinas, his mother and two brothers would perish. Jackson would never forgive the British for this grievance.
