Recipe from The Make-Ahead Cook; 1/4 c hoisin sauce, 1/2 c water, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp vegetable oil, 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger, 2 garlic cloves minced, 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, 1 1/2 lb flank steak, trimmed and sliced thin across the grain, 1 lb broccoli florets cut into 1 inch pieces, 2 carrots peeled and cut into 2 inch long matchsticks, 1/2 red onion sliced thin, 1 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted

Whisk hoison sauce, 1/4 c water, and soy sauce together in a bowl and set aside
Combine 1 tsp oil, ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes in small bowl
Heat 1/2 tsp oil in a 12-inch nonstick skillet over high heat until just smoking Add half of beef, breaking up any clumps, and cook without stirring for 1 min Stir beef and continue to cook until browned around edges, about 30 seconds; transfer to a separate bowl Repeat with 1 1/2 tsp oil and remaining beef; transfer to bowl
Heat remaining 2 tsp oil in the skillet over high heat until shimmering Add broccoli, carrots, and onion and cook for 30 seconds Add remaining 1/4 c water, cover skillet, and lower heat to medium; steam vegetables until crisp-tender, about 2 minutes
Push vegetables to the sides of skillet Add ginger-garlic mixture to the center of the skillet and cook, mashing mixture into skillet, until fragrant, 15 to 20 seconds Stir mixture into vegetables
Return beef with any accumulated juices to the skillet and toss to combine Whisk sauce to recombine, then add to the skillet and cook, stirring constantly, until sauce is evenly distribted, about 30 seconds Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve
