Výuka experimentálního designu a umožnění studentům vyvinout si vlastní otázky a hypotézy zabere čas. Tyto materiály byly vytvořeny za účelem lešení a struktury procesu, aby se učitelé mohli soustředit na zlepšování klíčových myšlenek experimentálního designu.
Mold is a living organism. The chemical reactions that keep the mold alive are affected by temperature. When we increase the temperature, the speed of these chemical reactions increases. Therefore, if we increase the temperature, more mold should grow on the bread.
Skluzavka: 3
Hypothesis
If I increase the temperature, then mold will grow more quickly on the bread.
Prediction
The piece of bread kept in the warmest location will have the most mold growth.
Skluzavka: 4
Independent Variable
The temperature of storage space
What is your range? How many times will you repeat the test?
There will be 2 different temperatures: Refrigerator temperature 40°F (4°C)Room temperature 73°F (23°C).I will repeat the experiment 3 times at each temperature.
Skluzavka: 5
Dependent Variable
The amount of mold on the bread
How will you measure your dependent variable?
Using a transparent grid I will calculate the area of the bread which is covered in mold.
Skluzavka: 6
Controlled Variables
1. Amount of light2. Exposure to air3. Type of bread4. Size of bread slice
How will you keep them constant?
1. All the bread slices will be put in paper bags so they are all in the dark.2. All the bread slices will be put in plastic bags.3. All the bread slices will be taken from the same loaf.4. Bread slices will be chosen that are the same size.
Skluzavka: 7
Risk asssessment
You could have an allergic reaction to mold. You could inhale the mold.
How can these risks be managed?
If you are allergic to mold don't take part in the experiment.Do not open the bags at the end of the experiment and dispose of them carefully.

Materials - What do you need to complete this experiment? Why?
• 6 slices of bread that are the same size• A refrigerator - kept at a constant temperature• A warm place - kept at a constant temperature• 6 plastic bags - to keep the bread in and stop the mold getting out• 6 paper bags - to keep the sunlight out• A ruler - to measure the mold spots• A transparent grid - to help work out the area of bread that is covered in mold• A marker - to label the bags

Plan - How are you going to carry it out safely?
Skluzavka: 12
1. Use the marker pen to label the 6 bags so they can be identified easily later. Place a slice of bread in each bag.2. Put the bags inside paper bags and put 3 into the fridge and 3 in a closet.3. Leave the bags for 2 days.4. Check the bags every day and record how much of the surface area is covered in mold. This can be done using a transparent grid.5. Record your results in a table.6. Do not open the bags and dispose of them carefully into the trash.
