Storyboard Tekst

  • Theme
  • Hey there! Watch out, it's very dangerous where you're headed right now! Stay safe pal!
  • What do you take me for old man?! Leave me alone unless you want to scuffle with me old-timer!
  • Symbolism
  • Symbol: The overwhelming superiority of instinct over technology and how much more valuable it is.
  • Symbol: Human beings trying their best and coping with life to be able to achieve the warmth (kindness) of the fire)
  • Characterization
  • ARROGANT
  • FOOLISH
  • UNIMAGINATIVE
  • NAIVE
  • ERRONEOUS
  • One must not allow arrogance to get in the way of what is right. The author creates this story as a way to allow the reader to visualize the scenarios that an arrogant man was to confront due to his ego getting in the way of the old-timer's advice. The arrogant man ignored the advice of the geezer which allowed the arrogant man to heavily underestimate the brutal conditions of Canada's Yukon territory, eventually leading him to die due to harsh human conditions.
  • Settings
  • In the short story To Build a Fire, there are many different forms of symbolism being displayed throughout the entire story. One form of symbolism was the dog and how it displayed to the reader the superiority of instinct over technology. There were also the man's hands which represented the gate between life and death, since the moment the man lost feeling in his hands, he was unable to complete the necessary tasks needed to survive and stay alive.
  • Foreshadowing
  • The Man: The main character in To Build a Fire is a naive and unimaginative man. He is knowledgeable, but he is overly reliant on his defective judgment and fails to appropriately anticipate the dangers he would experience in the Yukon.
  • Irony
  • YOU DUMB DOG CURSES ON YOU
  • This narrative takes place in Canada, in the Yukon Territory, where after gold was discovered, hundreds of miners, usually young men, came to the territory. Unfortunately, the majority of them did not become wealthy, and many perished as a result of the difficult conditions. By presenting his readers to the surroundings, the author sets the tone for a gloomy and terrifying tone. Isolated in a harsh environment of doom and gloom, the author demonstrates how the story's main character is utterly unconscious of his surroundings.
  • What the elderly gentleman told the man was a crucial foreshadowing point. In summary, he advised him that the weather where he was going was hazardous. This gives the reader the impression that the man will not escape unscathed. Another major foreshadowing moment occurred after the fire was quenched. The man was already cold, so he barely lit the fire, and when it went out, it signaled his death because of the cold.
  • The dog's behavior at the end of the story was particularly ironic in this novel. In brief, the man strangled the dog in an attempt to warm his hands, but he eventually let go since he had no sensation in his hands and couldn't do anything else. When someone is ready to kill you and you flee, you usually try to avoid them as much as possible; yet, the dog does the exact opposite and pursues the man until he dies.
