- Around 1096 Peter the Hermit gathered around 20,000 people, On his way to Jerusalem he was passing by near villages and farmers to recruit them.
- We can free Jerusalem with God's help!

- These are Christian pilgrims and they have every right to come here
- People from all around the world want to come to Jerusalem to worship. The Fatimid Arabs don't want anybody entering the city anymore. In#160; some cases deadly force was used.
- The First crusade was lead by Peter the Hermit. For the First crusade to be successful, other waves of pilgrims came by land and sea.
- Don't be afraid men and women, we are going to see the holy land.

- In 1144 the Muslims captured Edessa. The word reached Europe and the people feared this, they called on the Pope for a Second crusade. King Louis the VII, The German Emperor and Eleanor of Aquitaine got involved, but even their power was not enough to succeed.

- In 1189 three Kings got together and made plans of how to get Jerusalem back from the Muslims. This marked the beginning of the Third Crusade.
- No brothers, let me talk to the Sultan.
- After King Richard spoke with Saladin, a truce was made. This ended the Third Crusade. Now, pilgrims were able to travel to the holy land unharmed.
- I agree, we should take it by force.

- Around 1204 the Pope launched the Fourth Crusade to overthrow the Muslim Sultan. Instead the crusaders looted the innocent people of Constantinople.#160; This event resulted in the Pope being furious with the crusaders.
