- One major theme of The Monsters are due on Maple Street by Rod Serling is that fear suspicion are destructive. One example that supports is when Mr. Goodman's Car starts automatically. When Mrs. Brand said that the power was out, Mr Goodman's car didn't start, but after he walked away, he noticed that his car randomly started. And he's really freaked out/ confident about this situation tries to tell the truth. Although, he did say that everyone looked at him while he was starting his car. Another example for the theme is when Don Charlie were suspicious about Steve when he works in his basement. Don said something suspicious about Steve's basement that he always goes down there works on some kind of radio or something else that they want him to spill out. Finally, Steve's wife comes out said's that it's just a ham radio everyone has those kinds of types. To finish off, another example that supports the theme is when Charlie shoots Pete Van Horn without even noticing. When Charlie sees someone coming up to them, he snatches the gun from Steve shoots the Imposter. But it turns out that it was Pete Van Horn that was lying on the ground. In the distance, everyone looked at Charlie had fear anger in their eyes. But Charlie didn't know that it was him in that pitch black distance. And now everyone was upset at him started throwing rocks at him up to his porch. In Conclusion, fear suspicion was the theme because these details show that from Maple Street they were stressed confused about each of their neighbors problems they had. Plus, it was hard for them to explain, but it turns out it wasn't their fault, their neighbors are the real enemies for blaming something that they didn't do.
