Snape is obsessed with the past because Harry's mom is Lily, one of Snape's old lovers. and that is why he protects Harry.
Snape's lover, Lilly left him and got married to James potter, his best friend. they then died because of Lord Voldemort.
Snape does not like many good guys and does not follow the rules. But he is good in times of need

Severus Snape is a Defense Against the dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. He attended Hogwarts as a student. During his schooling, he becomes best friends with Lily and James Potter, before they got married, Snape falls in love with Lily. Lily and James have a child named harry , but shortly after are killed by Lord Voldemort. Snape promises both Lily and James he will make sure that Harry is taken care of. As much as Snape resents Harry for being the product of his biggest regret, he cares for Harry because he cares about Lily. Snape is also a Death Eater, or a follower of Lord Voldemort. Lord Voldemort then kills Snape because he betrays him for the good guys.
