One of the ways of grabbing the audience's attention as a way of introducing my presentation is to talk about the issue of trauma-informed care and explain to them why it is an essential issue in child welfare. I use an example of a child misbehaving in school to grab the audience's attention. I then proceed to explain what trauma is and use examples of what it entails, such as abuse, neglect, and being taken away from home.

In the middle part of my presentation, I talk about how trauma affects the brain and the behavior of the child, including the fight, flight, and freeze response. I also talk about how behavior is a form of communication, how the focus has changed from “what’s wrong with you?” to “what happened to you?” and briefly talk about the main principles of trauma-informed care.

Finally, I explain the significance and importance of trauma-informed care and how it helps the child to build up his/her strength. At the end, I remind the audience that as future social workers, we should be understanding and empathetic.
